Alberta Farm Stream

The Alberta Farm Stream is designed for experienced farmers who plan to buy or start a farm in Alberta, can apply for permanent residence. This stream is for entrepreneurs who have the financial resources and farm management experience to establish a new or purchase an existing farm in Alberta.

 

Eligibility Requirements: Candidates must prove that they have farm management skills. Proof of this may include, but is not limited to:

  • Exploratory Visit:  Exploratory visit to Alberta to meet community representative and assess business opportunities;
  • Proof of experience: Financial supporting documentation of the existing farm business;
  • Education: Proof of education (certificates and transcripts), training and work experience;
  • Business plan: A proposed Business Plan (as per AAIP Business Plan Guidelines) for the farming enterprise you are considering in Alberta;
  • Canadian Financial Institution Endorsement: Proof that a Canadian financial institution is willing to finance your proposed farming business;
  • Net worth: Minimum Net worth CAD $500,000 or confirmation of the ability to access a similar amount of funds from other sources. Applicant may be required to show the ability to invest more than the minimum;
  • Investment: Minimum CAD $500,000 of equity in a primary production farming business in Alberta;


Application Process:

Step 1: Assessment of ILCB;

Step 2: Review the Eligibility Criteria;

Step 3: Exploratory Visit to Alberta;

Step 4: Farm Stream Business Plan;

Step 5: Submit Business Application Package by registered mail or courier to AAIP;

Step 6: Business Application Assessment (If the program officer requires further clarification, the AAIP may request an interview with you conducted through web-based video conferencing);

Step 7: Receive Nomination by AAIP;

Step 8: Apply for PR application to IRCC.
