Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) – Northwest Territories Business Stream
The Northwest Territories Business Stream is designed to attract experienced entrepreneurs with the financial capacity and business management experience to establish, purchase, or invest in a business that will provide economic benefit, job creation, and long-term growth within the Northwest Territories. The NTNP Business Stream aims to bring Foreign Nationals to the territory who can meaningfully contribute to economic development, fill investment needs, and establish themselves permanently in the Northwest Territories.
Eligibility Requirements (Minimum):
- Exploratory Visit: Mandatory 4 full business-day visit, interview and assess business opportunities;
- Education: Minimum of high school equivalent to the Canadian standard (ECA);
- Language Proficiency: IELTS score minimum CLB 04;
- Experience: Must have Business ownership OR Senior manager experience relevant to the proposed business within the past 10 years;
- Net worth: Minimum CAD $500,000 inside or CAD $250,000 outside Yellowknife;
- Investment: Minimum CAD $200,000 inside or CAD $100,000 outside Yellowknife;
- Business establishment: At least 33.3% ownership for starting/buying business;
- Job creation: Must create at least one full-time job for Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents (not including relatives);
- Interview: Required face-to-face interviews with NTNP staff;
- Residency: Live and operate business at least 12 months.

Application Process:
Step 1: Assessment of ILCB;
Step 2: Exploratory visit (minimum 4 business days) and interview with NTNP officers;
Step 3: Registration to NTNP and submit pre-interview submission (Business Concept and Exploratory Visit Report);
Step 4: Receive invitation to submit Formal Application;
Step 5: Submit Formal Application package including:
- Business Plan
- Third-Party Financial Verification Report
- Settlement Plan
Step 6: Sign Business Performance Agreement (BPA); receive NTNP approval and Letter of Support for work permit;
Step 7: Submit Work Permit to IRCC (2 years work permit);
Step 8: After approval, move to Alberta to establish or take over the Business;
Step 10: Business progress report to AAIP in every six (6) months;
Step 11: Final report for Nomination (After minimum 12 months of business operation and investment completion);
Step 12: Receive Nomination by AAIP;
Step 13: Apply for PR application to IRCC.
