Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP)
The Nova Scotia Entrepreneur Stream is designed for experienced business owners or senior managers who wish to live in Nova Scotia and establish, purchase, or co-own a business in the province. The program encourages investment that contributes to economic growth and job creation in Nova Scotia. Applicants must operate their business in Nova Scotia on a Work Permit for at least one continuous year before being nominated for permanent residence.
Eligibility Requirements (Minimum):
- Age: 21 years or older
- Exploratory Visit: Mandatory if you plan to buy an existing business. You must meet with the current business owner and include a report in your Business Establishment Plan.
- Education: Minimum of a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent foreign credential. An Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) is required.
- Language Proficiency: Minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in all four abilities (listening, reading, writing, speaking) in English or French.
- Work Experience: At least 3 years of experience as an active business owner (with minimum 33.33% ownership) in the last 10 years, OR at least 5 years of experience as a senior manager in the last 10 years.
- Net worth: CAD $600,000 if the business is inside the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). CAD $400,000 if the business is outside HRM. All assets must be legally obtained and verifiable.
- Investment: Minimum investment of CAD $150,000 of your own funds for a business inside HRM. CAD $100,000 for a business outside HRM.
- Business establishment: Minimum 33.3% ownership. You must provide active, ongoing management of the business from within Nova Scotia for at least 12 months.
- Job creation: Must create at least one full-time job (or equivalent) for a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident who is not a relative.
Eligibility Requirements (Preferred, will increase your chances):
- Age: 33-39
- Economic Benefit: Business succession (purchasing an existing business).
- Business Location: Establishing a business outside of Halifax County.
- Export-oriented Business: A business that exports goods or services outside Nova Scotia.
Application Process:
Step 1: Assessment of ILCB.
Step 2: Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) online.
Step 3: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
Step 4: Submit a full Application to NSNP within 90 days, including a detailed Business Establishment Plan and within 180 days, a Net Worth Verification Report.
Step 5: Attend virtual or in-person interview.
Step 6: Sign a Business Performance Agreement with NSNP and receive an Entrepreneur Approval Letter.
Step 7: Apply for a work permit from IRCC.
Step 8: After work permit approval, move to Nova Scotia and start to operate the business within 6 months.
Step 9: Final report for Nomination (must actively owned and operated the business in Nova Scotia for at least 12 months).
Step 10: Receive Nomination by NSNP.
Step 11: Apply for PR application to IRCC.
